Some students choose to apply to only a few colleges because they feel the total cost of all those application fees would be too much. But did you know that, depending on your family’s income, you may be eligible to save on your application fees? Here are some savings opportunities you should look into:
You may be able to save on your SAT and college application fees
When you’re signing up to take your SAT in high school, find out if you’re eligible for an SAT fee waiver. If you are, you may also be able to waive your application fees for up to four colleges, along with your SAT fees. You can find out more here.
A CSS profile fee waiver may also enable you to save on application fees
In addition to the FAFSA, some colleges use what’s known as the CSS Profile to award financial aid. Filling out this form may also result in not having to pay some application fees.
Find out what your chosen schools offer in terms of fee waivers
Different colleges have different policies concerning the waiving of application fees. If one of the schools that you’d like to apply to is not on the lists shown above, talk with your college counselor, or contact that college’s admission department and find out how the application fee can be waived. This varies by school.
