Some students don’t apply to more than a few colleges because they feel the application fees would be too much. But did you know that, depending on your family’s income, you may be eligible to save on your application fees? Here are some savings opportunities you should look into:
Find out if you’re eligible for an SAT fee waiver. If you are, you may be able to waive your application fees for up to four colleges, along with your SAT fees. Details can be found here:
If you meet the requirements for an SAT or ACT testing fee waiver, the National Association for College Admission Counseling will enable you to apply to up to four colleges without having to pay the application fee.
In addition to the FAFSA, some colleges use what’s known as the CSS Profile to award financial aid. Filling out this form may also result in not having to pay some application fees.
Different colleges have different policies concerning the waiving of application fees. If one of the schools that you’d like to apply to is not on the lists shown above, talk with your college counselor, or contact that college’s admission department and find out how the application fee can be waived. This varies by school.
